Espen Hovlandsdal – developer.

I am a self-taught developer with a real passion for writing software. Most of my projects have been within the realms of web development, but I’m now starting to branch out and find the challenge of writing user-friendly mobile applications for the Android platform a real joy.

Recently I have been part of a small team developing a highly dynamic forum solution for the biggest newspaper in Norway. Having written a large amount of the backend code for the project as well as most of the frontend Javascript code, my experience has quickly grown to a level I’d refer to as “quite comfortable”. After a rather successful launch, I went on to work on a brand new football site for the same client, which gives users a very dynamic platform for viewing live football matches – with both text updates and live, adaptive video streams available.

Projects like these have given me plenty of experience in building high-performance, dynamic and scalable web systems. I enjoy working with the LAMP stack, but also enjoy trying out new technologies when I have the chance.

My spare time is usually spent working on hobby projects, some of which I will feature on this site regularly. I also enjoy listnening to music, playing a game of Battlefield Heroes or grabbing a beer with friends.

Rexxars.com – the site

The site is based on Wordpress. I originally wrote my own blogging platform, but the amount of features I wanted to implement would take too much time, so I ended up with wordpress. While some of the wordpress code is “questionable”, it sure gets the job done, and that’s all I need it to do.

The theme/template is written by me. I wanted something that would validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict, and I wanted something lightweight. This is my attempt at that. It doesn’t really work in IE6, but the site is aimed at developers anyway, so I don’t really care. I “stole” some ideas and graphics from the “Fusion” wordpress theme, mainly the top right buttons for increasing font size and switching between fluid and fixed width.

I hope to be blogging about everything that I find interesting, and I hope someone else will find my views interesting aswell. If you do, drop me a line! I appreciate it ;-)
